REVIEW: Mr. IRISH BASTARD - "A Fistful of Dirt"

Mr. Irish Bastard, a 2008 Honorable Mention-holder for the Top-Ten Best Celtic Folk Punk CDs of the year at Shite ‘N’ Onions, returns with a new release, A Fistful of Dirt.

And it it just simply rocks.

The 5-piece Mr. Irish Bastard, (tin whistle, mandolin and banjo, bass guitar, drums guitar and vocals,) are supplemented here on ‘A Fistful of Dirt” by accordion, but, in a subtle and balanced manner, and though the vocals still more than just occasionally resemble those of a Hell’s Ditch-era Shane MacGowan, they are clear, slur-free and work quite well with the material presented on “Fistful.”

To describe Mr. Irish Bastard’s sound to those unfamiliar with it, is somewhat of a challenge. “A Fistful Of Dirt,” (the band’s third release, and follow-up to 2008’s brilliant “The Bastard Brotherhood,”) has aspects reminiscent of The Pogues, as well as of ones of The Dropkick Murphys and, most surprisingly, some strong elements that bring to mind Social Distortion. These meet and mix very well, though, and create a sound that is catchy and accessible, while at the same time embodying all the ingredients of a top-notch Celtic Folk-Punk band.

The songs, themselves, are really well-written, lyrically interesting, and devoid of the standard clichés of the genre, (i.e. overbearing accordion, every other track a drinking song, sea shanty covers, et cetera.) A Fistful of Dirt offers up fourteen tracks here; eleven origin compositions and three out-of-the-ordinary cover songs, including The DublinersSecond World Song, and an incredible remake of of The Clancy Brother’s Isn’t It Grand. Both of these songs are done with a great deal of respect without sacrificing the infusion of the Bastard sound. The other cover song included in the 46 minute-long, Fistful a rollicking, fun, and surprisingly "cool" version of the 80s, new-age tune, You Spin Me Right Round by Dead or Alive.

All of the Mr. Irish Bastard-penned original material on the disc is just as impressive, deftly balancing the energy and toothsome punk attack with folk and traditional elements to create a release worthy of reckoning, and in the end, “A Fistful of Dirt” is simply a fantastic CD. Extremely highly recommended to anyone with even a passing interest in the music presented on sites like this.

The Old Firm is a three piece outfit from Zeeland, in the Netherlands. At the beginning, they used to play traditional songs and tunes from Scotland and Ireland and some covers. Little by little they started to write their old material. The band is called The Old Firm (the main football match in Scotland, Glasgow Rangers vs. Celtic Glasgow) because they used to play with a couple of Scottsmen who were supporters of those teams.

THE CODGERS - Videos

Greetings from Motown!

We do not have an album yet, but we do have some new videos we would like to share with you. They were filmed at the St. Patrick's Day Parade in the Corktown neighborhood of Detroit last year.

The Codgers formed in southwest Detroit in 2006 with members formerly of local punk and indie-rock bands and have since played at hole-in-the-wall Irish pubs, established rock venues, dinner theatre, a senior citizen's home, weddings, a church festival, floating on Lake St. Clair, a pirate themed party, and probably on your street corner.

John Freeman - guitar, vocals
Steve Cousins - accordion
Matt Balcer - mandolin
Tim Bradley - banjo
Jake Dimmick - bass

Also Featuring:

Patrick Carey - bodhrán, vocals

BASTARDS ON PARADE - Interview

At last! I’m sorry for the delay, I posted this interview on the Spanish version of the blogzine in April and I should have translated it then.

The band tells everything about its first European tour and their forthcoming debut album.

Hi, Bastards. Thank you for the interview and your support. Let’s talk about your February tour. The starting point was Sestao, near Bilbao (Spain). The gig took place in a small venue on a Wednesday, but maybe it was the right place for a warm-up gig. Which were your feelings then?

Well, we were eager to start the tour. We thought that maybe it would be a quiet show, it was not a weekend show and we have never played there, but it turned out to be a f*cking great show, it was a big surprise and we are looking forward to playing there again in the near future.

The next two gigs took place in the Maisuenea Gaztetxea (a kind of squat) in Olazti and in a venue in Mondragón. What do you think about the venues and the audience there?

In both places the treatment was high class; the shows were awesome and the people who arranged the gigs treated us very well if we take into account that we are a bunch of bastards hahaha.

The great leap forwards, the fourth show was abroad, in Bordeaux (France). Did you notice a big difference regarding the organization and the audience there?

Maybe it was the dirtiest gig of the tour, but not in a bad sense hahaha. It was a small venue and the sound was not very good, but it was full of people that were dancing and pogoing from the beginning of the show, people falling down on stage, the microphone hitting on the mouth, sweat, blood … really f*cking good! Hahaha

You told me in Sestao that you have to drive a big distance from Sestao to the Netherlands, since the next show was at 15h00 on Sunday. Did you arrive on time or something happened? By the way, what do you think about an early show like this?

Pfff… it was really crazy. As soon as we ended up in Bordeaux at 2h00 in the morning we hade to drive to Hengelo. We arrived at 16h00 in the afternoon. All along the way we collected some anecdotes: we were stopped at the Belgian border, because they wanted to have a look at our van, we had to pay 50 cents at the gas stations when we wanted to go to the toilet… but everything went OK, hahaha.

I feel that The Netherlands have a big Celtic punk fan base, this kind of music is quite popular there. Did you notice it?

To tell you the truth, this was the weakest date of the tour, we thought that there were no people in the Netherlands, hahaha. Not too many people at the gig and the sound was very bad.

And the other band, 5 Shots of Whiskey, what do you think about them?

Not so bad, punk’n’roll or whatever you call it. Definitely, not so bad.

The next shows were scheduled in Germany. This is the paradise for any Celtic punk band, this style has a big following there from the early days (The Pogues). You were in the middle of the tour and you had already played a couple of gigs abroad. Were you a little bit nervous or were you ready to feel a new experience on stage?

I guess that both of them, maybe we were a little bit impressed, we had always dreamt to play in Germany, but at the same time we were eager to play like madmen. Germany is the key! hahaha

And the Day arrived, your first show in Germany at the Tobis Irish Pub in Emden. Was everything OK?

The place was really cool, it was the Irish pub that you would like to have near your home to spend the whole day there, hahaha. And Tobi and his family were really nice. The show was very good and the people were happy. Even if it was a Tuesday, there were a lot of people and all of us went drunk after the show, hahaha.

The next show took place at the Drücklufthaus in Oberhausen. What can you tell us about this gig?

We really liked that venue. We played with a band called Ausgelebt, which was quite good. The show was also very good, the audience began to dance little by little and finally it turned out to be a great party.

Third gig in Germany, at Subway to Peter in Chemnitz. I guess that you have then a lot of beers and a lot of motorway in your bodies. Maybe you were a little bit tired, but I guess that you were looking forward to playing more shows there …

Yeah, we were ready to play a great show, unfortunately the tour was coming to its end and we wanted to play more gigs. You are right, maybe we were a little bit tired because of the booze and driving too much. But when we were on stage we forgot it and we feel that the gig was really funny. The fans told us that it was great and that they have enjoyed it. So it was great, hahaha.

If you have a look to the pictures that were taken that night, you will notice that we look a litlle bit "tired". Besides, we drank the special Subway to Peter garlic liquor, that really kills you, hahaha.

The last show was at K19 in Kassel, together with Kings and Boozers (former Lady Godiva) and Dominator. Have you ever met Kings and Boozers?

Finally they didn’t play, as far as we remember one of them had heart problems. It was really a shame, we were eager to play with them. But Dominator was a big surprise. They really rock and their show was awesome

The place was amazing, a very good sound, a fridge full of beers for the bands ...The organization and the audience treated us very well. K 19 RULES!

By the way, David was interviewed by Sören (wittmaso) for the netzine www.celtic-rock.de

We would like to thank Sören very much for coming, he had to drive 4 hours back home, although we tried to get him drunk, hahaha

And the highest moment of the tour arrived, the long-awaited Circle J “Weekend Warriors” release party in Utrecht. I guess that you can tell us a lot of things about that gig. When did you met Circle J? Did Circle J drink all the bottles of patxaran (tradicional liquor from Navarre) that night or did they keep them for other day?

That date was one of the best, as it was expected. Circle J are a great band and their live show was excellent. Moreover, they are very nice people, hahaha. The venue was also comfortable, full of people and the party was unbelievable.

We met Circle J when we arranged a gig in La Coruña for them and Skontra and we became close friends with both of them. We brought hem eight bottles of patxaran from Navarre and they drank all of them very fast. They drank a little bit every time they sold a CD, and they sold a hell of a lot of CDs… It was really the perfect closing date for the tour.

I guess that you didn’t have enough time to enjoy the night life in Bordeaux and Hengelo, but maybe you could do it in Germany and Utrecht. What about the fans, the beers, the pubs…?

We stayed in the same venues in which we have played. The beers were very good and the fans were better. We went to some pubs in Amsterdam, it was the day-off and we should have taken a rest. However, it turned out to be a big party. Taking into account that we were in Amsterdam, I guess that it is normal that it happened there.

What about the CD sales alter the shows? Did you sell more T-Shirts than expected?

That was a pleasant surprise, we sold a lot of CDs and T-shirts. We run out of the L, XL and XXl sizes too soon, the people there are taller than in our country. We are grateful to everybody for their support at every show.

Apart from Sören, did someone else make you an interview for a radio or fanzine?

Unfortunately not.

Now that the tour is over, which are the positive things that you have learnt? And which are the differences that you have found regarding the venues, organization, equipment, etc in comparison with the ones that you normally find in our country?

Positive, everything. We feel that we should come back soon (in fact we are already working on a next tour in November/December). Everywhere the people have treated us very good. They know that we come from a different country and they do their best to make us feel comfortable (the booze helps, of course). The organization was perfect in every venue we played. Here, in Spain, the level is improving, but we must admit that they are doing it better abroad.

Talking about new friends, did you meet other bands apart from the ones you shared the stage with?

Yes, the people from Barroom Heroes, they are great mates and we drank together at the Tobi’s Irish Pub. And the Dutch Irish Bastard, a real crack guy, we become friends quickly and we are going to work together very soon.

By the way, you have already shared the stage with Sambre, Skontra, Circle J, The Real McKenzies, The Mahones, The Dreadnoughts, The Booze, Brutus’ Daughters ….any other band you would like to play in the same bill?

With any other band you enjoy! Top bands such as The Pogues or Dropkick Murphys, but also new bands that are going to play their first show. Every band is very interesting and we can learn a lot from them. Sometimes we play with a band we have never heard before and we find that they are very good on stage.

You have been interviewed by www.celtic-rock.de, three songs from your last EP have got airplay on their Internet radio Station, “Captain’s Dargle” has also been broadcasted at Paddyrock Radio Station, “Death Shore Pirates and "Saint Patrick's Day" have been included in the Shite’n’Onions Podcast no. 18, “Norfolk Streetwas also featured in our own January sampler, you are also featured on the “Tribute to The Mahones Album” that is going to be released soon, you have shared the stage with all the bands that have been mentioned above … Is the Spanish music market small for you?

This is something we are thinking over. We feel that if we were based in another country such as Germany, in which the musical taste is more rock/punk oriented, we could get more shows and we could improve as a band. Remember that we are living at the left corner of Europe, faraway from many places, hahaha

I feel that this is the year of Bastards on Parade. In a two years period you have released three EPs and “Death Shore Pirates” is your master piece. I was wondering if you have been contacted by some labels.

No, but we are working on that, we are going to forward our stuff to a lot of labels and we expect that some of them could be interested in Bastards on Parade.

Remark for all the punk/Celtic punk labels in Europe: What are you waiting for? Sign a deal with these guys, they are at the forefront of the new wave of European Celtic punk bands!!!

So, which are your plans for the near future?

We are trying to play a lot of shows and we intend to release our debut soon. After that, a new Euro Tour in November and we hope that everything will go fine, hahaha

Let’s imagine that you are contacted by another band in order to release a Split CD. Would you accept or do you think that the next step is to release the debut album?

We can do both things for sure. We are open to any project, we feel that it is good for us.

As far as the debut album is concerned, will all the tracks from the previous EP be included? Will the tracklist be totally new?

Maybe we will include a couple of them, but basically the tracklist will be new, with some interesting guests.

Is there a release date for the album?

We intend to release it at the beginning of the Summer, if we are lucky. If this is not possible, it will be available at the end of the Summer.

OK. That’s all. Do you want to add anything more …

We feel that the interview has covered everything, hahaha. We would like to suggest to other bands that they should play abroad, it’s a “religious” experience, hahaha. Thanks to all the promoters, bands and fans that went to our shows and, of course, thank you Waldo. Thanks for your support to this bunch of drunkards.

See ya in the Pub!

CALICO STREET RIOTS - 3 Track Demo

This is an unusual collection. From the London/Kent areas of England, come Calico Street Riots with their three-track Demo. The strange part being just how different the two styles present here really are.

Opener “A Pint And A Fight” is a toothsome, fast-paced ode to a workingman’s weekend venting. Distorted guitar and rapid-fire drums seem only egged-on by some manic accordion as the song kicks its way in, makes its point, and escapes, all in under two minutes!

I think I know what to expect now as the following track begins. After a moment of disorientation, (and a quick check to see if an entirely separate band’s song snuck its way into my playlist,) I remember that the Calico Street RiotsDemo is just that, a demo, and I take the musical 180° in stride.

The songs DO vary greatly however, with “Long Time Dead” and “Going Home” being less smash & grab and a bit more, what? Artistic? Certainly more atmospheric. Lyrics are more descriptive and thoughtful, and the instruments have more space to stretch out and be heard. I could mention the production value, but this is a demo, (I keep reminding myself,) and production is not the top of the priorities list.

With two distinctly different approaches happening on this one, 3-tracker, I am tempted to make comparisons between them. But if pressed, I don’t know if I could choose which I prefer. They are different, for sure, but equally enjoyable.

According to the Calico Street RiotsMySpace page, the young five-piece band, (comprised of vocals, fiddle, bass, accordion, and guitar,) are in the midst of adjusting their line-up. With such internal changes and new material forthcoming, it will be interesting to see which direction the band will follow, as it continues to define itself.

GREAT BIG SEA - Live Boulder 2010

(This is the info about the band on Wikipedia)

Great Big Sea (often shortened to GBS) is a Canadian folk-rock band from Newfoundland and Labrador, best known for performing energetic rock interpretations of traditional Newfoundland folk songs including sea shanties, which draw from the island's 500-year-old Irish, English, and Scottish heritage. The band also performs original material.

The band played its first official gig on March 11, 1993, opening for the Irish Descendants at Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John's, Newfoundland. The founding band members included Alan Doyle (vocals, guitar, bouzouki, mandolin), Séan McCann (vocals, bodhrán, guitar, tin whistle), Darrell Power (vocals, bass, guitar, bones), and Bob Hallett (vocals, fiddle, accordion, mandolin, concertina, bouzouki, whistles, bagpipes).

Power, McCann and Hallett had already been playing together with a woman named Jackie St. Croix in a band called Rankin Street. The band found its name as original bassist Jeff Scott rented an apartment on Rankin Street, St. John's, where the members first met and discussed the formation of the band. In the winter of 1989 the band, a six piece with guitar, bass, fiddle, accordion and mandolin played its first ever gig, two songs, at the Memorial University's winter carnival talent show under the name Newfoundland Republican Army or NRA, and won first prize. The band's only other appearance as NRA was later that winter at the university "Grad House". The band then dropped the fiddler, accordion player and the name.

As a four piece, the band first appeared as Rankin Street at a little pub in downtown St. John's called "The Rose and Thistle", playing for $100 and beer. For the first gig the band played through Sean McCann's stereo system as renting a PA would be more than the night's earnings. Susan Hickey (guitar and vocals) left the band months later to attend school in Halifax and was replaced by Darrell Power. The band gained much popularity playing such local pubs as Bridgettes and Greensleeves. In 1991 Jeff Scott was replaced by Jackie St. Croix on bass. The band released one recording on cassette titled "Rankin Street".

According to Doyle, Rankin Street owned a PA, and he owned a van, which made Great Big Sea "a match made in heaven." They toured nearly constantly for the band's first several years, sometimes travelling as many as 300 days a year.

Power retired from Great Big Sea in 2003 to spend more time with his family and friends. Supporting members of the band include Canadian freelance drummer Kris MacFarlane (2002) (drums, accordion, guitar, backing vocals) and Murray Foster (2003, formerly of the band Moxy Früvous, bass, backing vocals).

The band won the Entertainer of the Year award at the East Coast Music Awards for every year between 1996 and 2000. In 2001, they decided not to submit their name for nomination in order to allow other bands to compete. They have also been nominated for several Juno Awards, including Group of the Year in 1998, 2005 and 2009.

In the 2000 Canadian Federal Election, controversy occurred when Stockwell Day and the Canadian Alliance used the band's hit single, "Ordinary Day", at a rally without their permission. The band noted that this was a copyright violation and ordered that Day cease using the song for campaigning purposes.

Great Big Sea's first concert DVD and videos collection, the Great Big DVD, saw release in Canada and the United States in 2003 and Europe in 2004.

In late 2005, the band released its long-awaited "traditional" album, The Hard and the Easy, on which they recorded their favourite Newfoundland party songs. The title of the album comes from a line of the song "Tickle Cove Pond", one of two songs on the album about a horse falling through ice.

Also in late 2005, Great Big Sea released its first podcast, with clips of the band bantering back and forth in the studio mixed with various songs by them and other artists. They have since released several podcasts.

On February 9, 2006, the band's tour bus tipped on its side into a ditch on the Trans-Canada Highway about 80 kilometres east of Vancouver near Abbotsford. Their driver suffered minor head injuries, but everyone in the band was unhurt. The band went on to continue their tour including their performance that evening at The Centre in Vancouver for Performing Arts just hours after the accident.

On November 21, 2006, the band released their second concert DVD, Courage & Patience & Grit, recorded in Belleville, Ontario. It is also the second release by the band to be titled by a line from their 2005 song, "Tickle Cove Pond".

On June 13, 2007, the band announced they would return to the studio with producer Hawksley Workman. On March 14, 2008, the band announced that the title of the new album would be Fortune's Favour, borrowing a phrase from one of the songs on the album, "England". Prior to the release, a few of the songs that were eventually included on the album were played at live concerts, including "Love Me Tonight", "Walk on the Moon" "The Rocks of Merasheen", "Straight To Hell", and "Oh Yeah". On April 17, 2008, the band's website announced that the first single from Fortune's Favour would be "Walk on the Moon". People who pre-ordered the album from the band's official website were also treated to exclusive digital downloads of the songs "Belong (A Capella)" and "Gallow's Pole". The album was officially released on June 24, 2008 across all of North America.

The band joined two fan cruises called "Ships and Dip III" January 27 - February 1, 2008, and "Ships and Dip V" February 1 - February 6 2009, both hosted by Barenaked Ladies. The artists on Ships and Dip remain onboard for the duration of the cruise (other than shore days), in contrast to some cruises where the artist or artists travel separately to one of the cruise destinations and perform there, or join the cruise for only a portion of the trip. Band members enjoy other artists' shows and the ship's amenities freely with the other guests. Great Big Sea performs several full shows on each cruise.

Other artists who performed on for "Ships and Dip V" include The New Odds, Sloan, Butterfly Boucher, The Weakerthans, Gaelic Storm, Boothby Graffoe and many others including Barenaked Ladies side projects The Brothers Creeggan, Kevin Hearn and Thin Buckle and The Vanity Project. The ship also features stand-up comedy from Kids in the Hall members Dave Foley, and Kevin McDonald.

McALPINE'S FUSILIERS - Sons & Daughters of the Soil (2007)

Out of Victoria, Australia comes McAlpine’s Fusiliers, brandishing a swaggie swagger and packing an old-school Colonial punch, care of fiddle, guitar, accordion, banjo, bass, drums, bodhran, lagerphone, tin whistle, spoons and of course, vocals, all dispersed nicely among the band’s five members.

Among this full assortment, it is the accordion that seems the most prominent instrument of the pack, pervasive in its effect, driving the sound, and providing a solid platform for the fiddle, whistle or vocals to lead the way. And these vocals come wrapped up tightly in their thick Southern Australian accent, which only adds to the atmosphere that is as much a part Sons & Daughters of the Soil, (the band’s 2007 debut,) as any of the listed instruments.

That atmosphere, an Australian Folk-Punk sound, is fully actualized here, too, thanks to the aforementioned instrumentation and vocals as well as the song selection, from traditions to originals, the latter of which are so well written, that they blend seamlessly in among the covers, (in fact, I had a hard time picking out the original compositions from the band’s interpretations of traditionals, assuming instead that these were old songs that I was, until now, simply unfamiliar with!)

It is fair to say that McAlpine’s Fusiliers seem set to maintain a "folksier" sound, albeit, a somewhat punk-up folksier sound, but with no crunch or distorted guitars, nor angrily barked vocals. Just good honest songs.

The end result blazing away on Sons and Daughters of the Soil reminded me somewhat of the general feel midway between that of the Pogues and the Whisky Priests, (pretty damned good company for a debut!), but liberally laced with a strong ‘Down Under’ spin.

Honest, devoid of pretense or gimmick, and just rock-solid, good music.

GIG REVIEW: THE REAL McKENZIES - Barakaldo 29th April 2010

It was the fourth time that The Real McKenzies were going to play in Bilbao. I have only missed one of their previous shows. This time, the gig was at RockStar Live in Barakaldo. I had never been there.

The doors are open at 20h00. The show should start at 21h00. The capacity of the venue is 2.200 people an even if it is not full, a lot of peole have come to see The Real McKenzies. The stage is big, but I prefer Kafe Antzokia (another venue). Somebody shouts “Hey guys, it’s time to play!”. However, we have to wait till 21h20 to see the band. The drummer plays the drums as if they were a war drum and the band sings a capella. Is Paul wearing glasses? Yeah.

Another number and the third song is “Scott Wa Hae”. The band keeps on playing, but I feel that something is wrong. Paul is quite static and even if “Dirty” Kurt Robertson and “The Bone” seem to be enjoying the gig, I feel that the band is a little bit tired. It's their second European tour this year, too many shows and too many kilometers …

After twelve numbers, the band changes the gear and the acoustic part of the show begins. The first song is “Wild Mountain Thyme”. Other numbers that are performed are “King o Glasgow” and “Sawney Beane Clan”. I enjoy them. In this part of the gig the piper should stand out. However, he plays guitar in most of the songs. What a shame!

The band shifts gear again after six acoustic numbers. The next song is “I Hate My Band”. Little by little, I feel that the band is finally enjoying the show. Another eight songs and the gig is over. Encores. First of all, an instrumental number. The band really rocks. The last 5 numbers are the best ones, they seem a different band: “Auld Mrs. Hunt”, “Thistle Boy”… Unbelievable, Paul grabs the microphone. The end: “Bugger Off”, everybody goes mad, even the band. That’s the band that we had come to see.

22h58. The gig is over. Thirty two songs and I have mixed feelings.

It is obvious that the band has all the resources to play under the worst conditions. They are really a live band, but IMHO this gig has not been one of the best, the band was not fresh. Maybe the kids that have come early to buy their t-shirts feel that the band was awesome. But the fans that have previously seen the band know that the show has been good, but not great. We have missed the details that make a gig unforgettable. Anyhow, if RMcK is playing in a venue near your home, don’t hesitate and buy a ticket straightaway. You will enjoy the show. I won’t miss them the next time that they play here

P.S. Yeah, Paul showed his ass to the audience.

BLEEDING HEARTS - May 2010 Mailout

Who Says Politics And Music Don't Mix?

Main plot: rant }
Sub-plot: new song } or is it the other way round?

Hey, hello folks, Foxie here with my final pre-election rant fuelled by quality French Vino:

This is a bit of an unusual mailout - so firstly, please visit our 'Attack' page for the latest gig updates. There's a few more on there and there's more to come.

Right, propaganda version 1 done.

Here's propaganda version 2:

Main Plot:
It's only a day away to one of the most important elections in a generation and we have a choice to make..... errr actually except we don't really, do we?

There's the winner of 'Britain's Got No Politics X Factor Mr Universe' Nick Clegg with his flip flop policies and 'deal or no deal' show, who wants to change the face of politics but not really as he appears to have ruled PR out as a pre-requisite for a deal, or has he? Anything to get a say in Government... yep they are ALL the same!

There's 'dim but nice' Dave Cameron presenting the friendly face of Toryism that won't attack pensioners allowances or the needy (honest - read his contract with the electorate - have you read that shit? Try suing him in 5 years and see how far you get?!) whilst at the same time saying he's gonna' chop £27 billion in public spending this year without affecting frontline services - mmmmmmmmmmm - and he does cosy deals with right wing nutters in Europe to appease the right in his party. Where you at Dave eh?

Then finally, there's gorgeous Gordon Brown, the alleged man of substance and uglier than all of them put together and deadlier than a 'live' microphone. Oh, and the reason to vote for him is that the Labour Party are not quite as bad as the other two, well thanks for the vision and positive vibe dude. Inspire me, that's what I want and need along a reason to vote for you and this ain't happening right now.

Anyone else feel a bit dis-enfranchised and confused here? Like we got a Hobson's Choice? Where is the credible alternative, the passion, the vision, and the political philosophy for the 21st Century? The 18th century had the industrial revolution, the 19th century had reform and rise of the vote and worker rights, the 20th century was the people's century and saw the rise of idealism like socialism. What we got now? Administrators and beaurocrats moving the deck chairs around on the good ship Titanic as it decides which iceberg to hit, as one will cause less damage than the other.

We see the EU and IMF deciding the future of a country like Greece while the people of the country rebel, as they are the ones who will pay the price - not the faceless bankers and politicians who caused it by being in hock to global capitalism. And who knows..... like dominoes we might be next…Spain is already in the hat. But will we rebel?... are we angry?... I don't see it - sorry. WE WILL get the Government we deserve whoever it is and it's no good saying it ain't your fault 'cus it's all of our faults.

I do agree with Gordon that the Tories will really screw us and fire us back into recession and I ain't forgot the 80's (but credit where credit is due 'cus if I hadn't grown up with the Thatcher back-drop I wouldn't be so angry or creative, so cheers Maggie) but is that reason enough to vote for his lot? Oh yea they gave us the minimum wage, EU Social Chapter, improved NHS and schools..... but at what cost? Two pointless, destructive and deadly wars (on all sides), PFI, more privatisation and a bank bale-out that means we are now £1 trillion in debt. Don't get me wrong, the debt is one thing and sometimes you have to do this shit to get ahead, but not like this... we no longer even own the hospitals and schools we've paid for..... it's like taking out a mortgage on a house you want to buy only to be told even though you're paying it off someone else can live in the house and you've still got to find a place to rent for yourself.

Ultimately, this Thursday:

Nick will do what's right for Nick and his lot.

Dave will do what's right for Dave and his lot.

Gordon will do what's right for Gordon and his lot.

There are the other minority parties and independents (some of whom I find quite objectionable and those of you who know me will know who they are) but mostly (and sadly in some cases) due to the electoral system they are pissing in the wind.

Let's hope we do get a balanced (hung) Parliament so at least we get something positive out of this whole mess... electoral reform so that every vote counts! I might not agree with the way some of you vote (or you I) but your vote should at least count..... and if some of us are wrong in our beliefs it can be challenged and argued in a democratic way. That's never going to happen in this elected dictatorship system we seem to have inherited since 1979 that has given rise to politics moving ever to the right with cameras watching our every move and state control. What's the difference between the 'big society' of the right and 'big government' of the centre 'cus I am fuked if I know. Holy crap, it seems I can't even go for a bag of chips or a dump these days without being spied upon. I thought millions died in WWII to protect us from this invasion of civil liberties and total state control bullshit.

So yes, we do have a choice on Thursday, to vote for the party or parties that seek electoral reform.

I'll give you a clue - it ain't Dave or anyone else on the right..... go on prove me wrong... now there's a challenge.....

Sub Plot (eventually)
Oh, where was I..... music and politics..... I think they do mix 'cus at least the 70's and 80's had music anger, Punk! And historically Folk was a way of telling the stories of the day way back. Where's that now with the current lot? Nowhere, and that's where the Bleeders come into this..... we mix it up baby.....

I did not go to Eton, I did not go to Cambridge, I am not a millionaire, my wife is not a millionaire (I am not married I know but give me some poetic licence here) but when some prick tells me time and again that 'we're all in this together' I just wanna' punch his lights out 'cus we ain't are we really? Dave don't have to worry about surviving on minimum wage, or his tax credits or his childcare vouchers or his pension or that his kids might grow up in poverty or go to the wrong school as they live in a sink estate, or whether the council social services can still function or if the NHS has enough doctors or nurses does he, so no, sorry Dave, we ain't all in this together are we really. Nice spin. And the words 'conservative' and 'change' are diametrically opposed... an oxymoron! Spin over substance. If you think I am picking on Dave unfairly, tough... but at least I do realise that there are others in other parties who also enjoy the same weapons of privilege ! (wealth/education etc) as Dave..... Nick for instance - and he was once even courted by the Tory hierarchy.

In order to celebrate Dave's fine achievement of abuse of the English language, (this is where the grammar freaks will shoot me) we have juxtaposed it with music in our brand new song delivered for the first time this last weekend in a song called 'We're all in this together.'

Check it out ruff 'n' ready as it is:

So, go on vote for change on May 6th but just don't do it in the way that those 3 majorly right of centre mainstream parties want you to. Dare to be different, vote for reform, challenge the system, yup - make the day a truly historic one and make my day too, punk.

May the 6th could, just still, create a new Britain in a way we never imagined.

Foxie
